Kuakata offers a full view of the sunrise and sunset from the same white sandy beach in the water of the Bay of Bengal. Locally known as Shagor Kannya (Daughter of Ocean).

It is located in the southern part of Bangladesh.Reaching Kuakata is not easy. The only suitable option is to take any launch service (small ship) from Dhaka Sadarghat terminal to Barisal town.Timing-7pm onwards and takes 7 hours almost to reach.

There are different types of ships varying from five star to budget. Sundarban 10 and Parabat 11 are the superior ones where both Non AC and AC cabins can be found . Prices start from 1800bdt to about 12000bdt depending upon the facilities and comfort.(buy tickets 1 week before you travel for better seats and cabins). There are other launch services too which could cost less but are not well maintained and not cleaned properly.(Avoid those if you have OCD issues)

These launches or small ships reach Barisal town after an overnight journey .From Barisal buses are available which are local buses , this part of the journey can be little difficult for you if you’re not ready to adjust with the seats and to travel with the natives .Local buses leave every 1 hour but it’s better to take the bus as soon as you reach Barisal.Buses leave from the main Bus Stand which is a 10min ride by auto-rickshaw from the launch terminal. Auto rickshaw rides cost 100tk so don’t let them fool you .(3 hour bus journey, roads are not bad).

There is also an option of hiring car from Barisal to Kuakata town but that needs to be done beforehand and might be difficult to set up.

Many people also visit Kuakata by direct buses from Dhaka which is time consuming and hectic.

There are many cheap hotels in Kuakata town but avoid those.I stayed at Cinderella Resort which is very clean, beautiful and situated in the eastern zone offering 5mins walk to the beach.Take a rickshaw, local van or bike to reach wherever you plan to stay.Yes there are bikes with riders who will be at your service ensuring safety.

Do visit Lebur Chor, Jatiyo Uddan and Jhau-bon , the auto-rickshaw drivers are experts and they’ll give you the best deals to hop around and each round of visit takes 30mins which will definitely add more value to your experiences.

Feel free to ask me any question regarding this beautiful place.
